Da hatten wir dann also die Frida, unseren Van, und wussten anfangs nicht genau, wohin mit ihr fahren: Panama? Gleich in den Norden nach Nicaragua? Oder doch nochmal nach Matapalo im Süden Costa Ricas, wo es uns vor 1,5 Jahren so gut gefallen hat?

Nach kurzem Wellen-Check haben wir uns für Matapalo entschieden, obwohl wir wussten, dass es auch ein Reinfall werden kann… Da war’s im Oktober 2008 einfach so genial, da kann man auch wirklich enttäuscht werden beim zweiten Mal… Aber das Gegenteil ist passiert: Wir haben uns noch ein bisschen mehr verliebt in dieses unglaubliche Platzerl im Dschungel. Irgendwie war es fast ein kleines Heimkommen: Das Casa Colorado stand noch und hatte Platz für uns (diesmal sogar die größere Version an Haus, nicht nur Cabina), der nette Vermieter Chris hat uns wiedererkannt (und nette Vermieter haben wir schon in Innsbruck sehr zu schätzen gelernt) und sogar Hund Buddy hat aufgeregt mit dem Schwanz gewedelt.

“Alles prima, hier bleiben wir mal für eine Woche… 2 Wochen… 3 Wochen… 4 Wochen…!”
Es war einfach unser kleines Paradies. Trotz der “kleinen” Narbe an Holger’s Stirn hatten wir einfach eine 100% gute Zeit mit Surfen, Fischen, Hund Gassi führen, Kochen, Lesen, Yoga, Schlafen, Shoppen, Blumen gießen, Wäsche waschen, Gitarre spielen, Tanzen (echt wahr) und nette Leute um uns haben. Vor allem die letzte Woche war ein Highlight mit Kirby & Steve aus Colorado und Anna & Eisi aus Innsbruck (ja, mei, war des schee…).

Doch irgendwie müssen wir jetzt mal weiter, haben ja noch ein Stück Weg vor uns bis Mexiko und soviel Zeit ist gar nicht mehr (wie wir auch von allen Seiten regelmäßig zu hören bekommen). Wir wissen zwar nicht, was das jetzt toppen soll, aber die Vorfreude auf neue Länder, unbekannte Orte und den eigentlichen Start des Roadtrips ist ungebrochen.

ENGLISH VERSION

Finally we had Frida, our van, but in the beginning we didn’t really know where to go: Panama? North to Nicaragua? Or back to Matapalo (South of Costa Rica), the place we liked so much 1.5 years ago?

After checking waves we decided to head down to Matapalo although we knew that it also can turn out disappointing… It was so awesome in October 2008 that expectations could be too high… but the opposite was the case: we fell in love with this place even a bit more. Somehow it felt like “home coming”: Casa Colorado was still there and had room for us (this time even the large version of the house not just the smaller cabina), our host Chris recognized and welcomed us warmly and dog Buddy was also excited.

“Yeah, perfect, we gonna stay for 1 week… 2 weeks… 3 weeks… 4 weeks…!” It was just our little paradise. Besides Holger’s “small” scar on the forehaed we had a 100% good time with surfing, fishing, walking the dog, cooking, reading, yoga, sleeping, shopping, watering plants, doing laundry, playing guitar, dancing (no joke) and hanging out with nice people. Above all the last week was a special one with Kirby & Steve from Colorado and Anna & Eisi from Innsbruck (yeah, yeah, yeah).

But somehow we have to move on now. There is still some way to go until Mexico and the time is running short (as everybody from home tells us already). We don’t know what could top this place, but we are really looking forward to new countries, unknown locations and the “real” start of our roadtrip.
