A day to remember…!!!

ENGLISH VERSION

First of all: Galapagos is not a Caribean paradise with white beaches, palmtrees, hammocks and girls in bikinis… The Galapagos Islands are partly grey and dry, partly humid and green, have somehow a mystic character and are unbelievably fascinating.

Normally you go there with on boat cruise: at least 5 days you live on the boat and head to different islands, with two activities per day (snorkelling or inland tour). We did it in a different – and cheaper – way: we just booked a flight, spent some days on the one island (Santa Cruz), some days on the other islnd (San Cristobal) und did some day trips. This was a very good decision as, like this, we got the chance to live the (pre-christmas) life on the islands and to go on a awesome diving trip. With a very nice group of people we left this day for Kicker Rock (Leon Dormido) and packed in thick wetsuits, gloves and huts we went down together with the sea lions to the sharks, the rays, the turtles and the many, colorful schools of fish. A day to remember…!

The real fascinating thing about the islands is the fauna to which you as a human being belong to for 100%. That means that the animals don’t have fear and you get “integrated” in a completley different way than ever felt before! The sea lions play with you while snorkelling, the turtles don’t hide and even the smallest bird gets interesting when he almost sits on your hand…

Our travel guide for those days was good old Darwin who described the differences of the turtles from island to island and the characteristics of the iguanas in painful detail… perfect!

You need a few days to feel and enjoy the special character of those islands, but then it is really incredible! Especially on San Cristobal we could easily stay some more days, above all if we had our surfboards for those perfect waves…
